Hey all!
Today we had our 6 wk check ups. Caleb had a busy weekend so I was a little worried about how we'd get to the appt and how he would do. My concerns were vaporized by this little miracle of a boy. We woke up this morning around 6 and I fed him and he fell back asleep, so I was able to get dressed, feed the dogs, and get all his bag of goodies ready to go. By the time I was done with everything, it was 8 and I decided to feed him a little more so he'd make it if the appts were long. He took another 3-4 ounces and we were off. He got in his chair and was a little sleepy and fell asleep about 5 minutes from the clinic. Once we got there, he woke up and just started to look around. He stayed awake for the rest of the appt and was just a happy little camper and grinned at the nurses/doctor. He was trying to talk a little while I was having my checkup, so that was nice to keep my attention diverted!! :)
Then the most horrible thing happened, and it quickly became one of the more saddest days of my life. He had to get his shots (3 total). He was laying on the table just looking around, being so good, and the nurses both took a side. All I could do was watch, and he went from being completely happy to the most blood curdling screams - my heart was just ripped from my chest as I couldn't do anything until they were done.
I picked him up as soon as they were finished and he was able to calm down in a couple minutes, while I was getting my flu shot (only for Caleb, otherwise, I hate shots too!) After he quieted down, I dressed him and got him in his car seat. He took his pacifier and was trying to fall asleep - he was sleeping before we left the building. He was such a trooper! He had such a busy morning, that I wanted to let him do whatever he wanted today (if he wanted to sleep or eat, I was gonna let him). He actually didn't do anything out of the ordinary though. He woke up to eat and then took another nap. I wasn't sure how the shots would affect him, but they seem to only have left a little sore spot that I try to avoid touching. Otherwise, he's been awake a few times just looking around and talking to mom.
So finally, the details of the checkup! He weighs 11 lbs 2 oz, he's 22.75 inches long, and his head is 39 cm. He is above the 75th percentile for all areas, and the doctor was very impressed with his smiling, talking, and how he was able to hold his head up for quite awhile.
Ok, since it's been awhile since my last post, I figured I'd let you know what else we've been up to. He has been to a fair and to the Outback. He was very good at both places. Most of our days consist of getting up around 6-7 to eat, and then nap until 9 or so - brunch and then its time for Caleb and mom to have a good heart to heart conversation and play time. After he eats again, he's ready for a nap (sometimes he naps before he wants something to eat). Then he is awake again at around 2-3 and we talk a little more & play. Sometimes if he doesn't want to talk/play, he sits in his bouncy chair and watches me do more chores (this is the time that I could use a swing, since his bouncy chair puts him to sleep). Then after some more time of being awake and another meal, he's off to sleep until Dad comes home or just about 6-7 (supper time). I try to keep him from eating because we have a good system of giving him a bath when he wakes up after he gets all upset (still doesn't like bathes), he eats more than the average and wants to go back to sleep! And so does Mom!!
That is about the extent of our days. Sometimes I try to sneak a grocery store trip in there and we go for walks about everyday. I don't have any good pictures of him, since I'm trying to play with him more when he's awake, but I'll get some tomorrow and post them for you to see - he has gotten so big. He's gonna look like a little boy soon and not the baby boy from a couple weeks ago :(
Well, I'm still trying to keep up my milk production (not having much luck, but we're about 1/2 and 1/2). And now that I got the flu shot, I'm going to try to keep him on breast milk through the winter, and hopefully he doesn't get terrible sick.
I'll get some pictures tomorrow and post them, and hopefully I'll update more often while I have time. Although, when I go back to work, I'll be at a computer, so maybe it will be easier then (and not a short novel each time)!!
